Fridays Are Different – Biddy Bags

I spend quite a bit of time surfing the internet looking for the latest things that social entrepreneurs are up to.

Biddy Bags is one site that caught my eye. Based out of Queensland, Australia they connect older women through a craft-based social enterprise.

The women crochet the bags and then they are sold through the social enterprise – with the women receiving half of the profits, and the remainder being used to develop the social enterprise.

I think this a great idea and the bags look great. You can visit the Biddy Bags site to see more of their creations.

Another social enterprise, using a similar approach, is Fine Cell Work in the UK. They teach prison inmates across the UK how to do needlework then sell the work that they create, enabling them to generate an income they can save for when they leave prison or send to their families.
